The October Line-Up: Events and Activities this Month

After the long and relaxing days of summer, October is turning out to be packed with a whole range of events and activities - some of them in-store and some out and about in the community.

We’re starting with a celebration of our half-birthday, we have our regular monthly book clubs and are participating in some amazing local events. Check out the full lineup below and be sure to mark your calendars!

Please note that some of these events are subject to change as we're still putting details together, but stay tuned and we'd love to see you at as many as you can make it to!

Saturday, October 5th – 1/2 Birthday Celebration 🎂

It’s been six months since we opened our doors, and we can’t wait to celebrate with all of you! Join us for cake and coffee, and every purchase comes with a spin of the prize wheel, including a chance to win back half the value of your purchase* (see what we did there?)

This is a great opportunity to show our appreciation for your support this year and enjoy a fun day together! We'll be celebrating all day (10AM to 6PM), though we can't make any promises on how long the cake will last!

*Purchase value is pre-tax, and credit will be applied to next visit. Must have a customer account with valid email address to apply credit. Decisions on result of spin are at the sole discretion of Queen Takes Book.

Tuesday, October 8th – Tuesday Murder Mystery Club 🔍

Love mysteries? Join us at 10 a.m. for our monthly murder mystery club! This month, we’ll be discussing The Woman in the Library by Sulari Gentill.

There are still seats available - reserve yours here.

Tuesday, October 8th – Wilde Readings with Rahne Alexander and Maritza Rivera 📚🎤

We’re honored to host the Wilde Readings series in our store! At 7 p.m., join us for an evening of incredible readings by local authors Rahne Alexander and Maritza Rivera.

Wilde Readings is a monthly event providing a platform for poets, fiction, and nonfiction writers to share their work, followed by an open mic for audience members. This is an inspiring event for writers and readers alike!

Thursday, October 10th – World Mental Health Day - Books=Selfcare 🧘‍♀️📚

On World Mental Health Day, we’re creating a peaceful space for self-care, starting at 6:30PM. Bring a book of your choice, some knitting, your journal or any other quiet activity and find a cozy spot in the bookstore. Enjoy calm music, hot tea and a few moments to yourself in a tranquil environment.

This is the perfect opportunity to unwind and prioritize your mental well-being.

Sunday, October 13th – HoCo Pride Symphony Woods 🌈

We’re thrilled to be part of this year’s Howard County Pride celebration at Merriweather Park at Symphony Woods! Visit our booth to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community, connect with us, and explore our curated selection of books. Pride is a great opportunity to show your support, enjoy local festivities, and be part of an inclusive and welcoming environment.

Sunday, October 20th – Wilde Lake Fall Festival 🍂🎉

Join us at the Wilde Lake Fall Festival from 12–4 p.m. for a day of family-friendly fun! We’ll have a table set up with books and merchandise for all ages. Don’t miss out on live music, local vendors, and the chance to celebrate the season with the community.

Sunday, October 27th – Kids Storytime and Costume Party 🎃👻

Dress up in your favorite costume and join us for a spooky Kids Storytime! We’ll read Halloween-themed books, enjoy some treats, and have a costume contest. It’s a fun event for little ones and a great way to get into the Halloween spirit.

Join us at the special time of 1:30PM for Storytime fun!
