Just 2 Days Away: Our Biggest Book Fair of the Summer!

Love discovering new reads and upcoming events? Join our mailing list for weekly updates delivered straight to your inbox.

June marks Pride Month - a time to honor the resilience, joy, and ongoing fight for equality for all within our community.

At Queen Takes Book, we believe these values aren’t limited by the calendar. Pride isn’t just something we celebrate in June. It’s a reflection of who we are and what we stand for every day. We are a space where authenticity is welcomed, where safety is protected, and where every voice matters.

We love that this month shines a spotlight on the LGBTQ+ community, but our commitment doesn’t begin or end here. It’s constant, it’s personal, and it’s non-negotiable. We're proud to be a bookstore that chooses inclusivity - not occasionally, but always.

We’re just two days away from one of the biggest events of our summer: the Summer Boozy Book Fair is happening this Thursday, June 5 from 6–8pm at Cushwa & Rad Pies Taproom!

In addition to great drinks, bookish conversation, and stacks of fresh new releases, we’ll be celebrating the launch of our 2025 Summer Reading Guide - a 20+ page collection of our team’s favorite reads for every kind of summer mood, from sun-soaked adventures to spine-tingling thrillers.

We’re also thrilled to be joined by Sierra Lee, the incredible artist behind the look and feel of this year’s guide - and the visual voice behind Queen Takes Book since day one. (If you’ve admired the art behind our register, you’ve admired Sierra’s work!)

Space is limited, so RSVP today to grab your spot - and scroll down for this week’s newest arrivals.

Taylor Jenkins Reid’s Atmosphere is a leap into new territory, both literally and emotionally.

Set against the backdrop of NASA’s 1980s Space Shuttle program, this novel follows Joan Goodwin, an astrophysics professor turned astronaut trainee, as she navigates the challenges of space exploration and personal discovery. Reid carefully mixes the thrill of space missions with the intimate journey of Joan's evolving identity and relationships.

The narrative blends themes of ambition, love, and the resilience required to break barriers in a male-dominated field. Readers will find themselves captivated by Joan's bond with her niece, Frances, and the deep connection she forms with fellow astronaut Vanessa Ford.

Reid’s meticulous research and evocative storytelling make Atmosphere not just a tale of reaching for the stars, but also of what it means to be grounded in love and purpose. An expansive, yet very personsal, exploration of what it means to find one's place in the universe.

Maggie Stiefvater’s The Listeners is a beautifully written historical novel with a touch of quiet magic. Set in 1942 West Virginia, it follows June Hudson, the manager of the elegant Avallon Hotel. After the U.S. enters World War II, the hotel is taken over by the government to house detained Axis diplomats and their families. June must navigate this strange new role, keeping the hotel running while living alongside supposed enemies.

The hotel’s natural spring, known for its “sweetwater,” adds a subtle magical element. The water seems to reflect the emotions of those around it, making the hotel feel alive in unexpected ways.

Stiefvater brings depth to her characters and their relationships, especially June’s growing connection with FBI agent Tucker Minnick. The story explores themes of loyalty, identity, and the choices people make under pressure, and is great for readers who enjoy historical fiction with a twist.

Julian Treasure’s Sound Affects is an engaging look at how sound influences our lives in ways we often overlook. Treasure, known for his 2013 TED Talk "How to speak so that people want to listen", explains that sound affects us physically, emotionally, mentally, and behaviorally. He emphasizes that in our noisy world, we often forget the importance of truly listening, which can impact our well-being and relationships.

The book is organized into four parts: geophony (natural sounds), biophony (animal sounds), anthropophony (human-made sounds), and silence. Treasure encourages readers to become more aware of the sounds around them and offers practical exercises to improve conscious listening.

Sound Affects is a thought-provoking read that invites us to pay closer attention to our auditory environment. It's ideal for readers interested in how everyday sounds impact our health, emotions, and interactions.

To protect her mother and sisters, she agrees to marry a mysterious dragon lord named Elang and travel to his undersea palace.
